The Employer Identification Number, also known as the Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) or the Federal Tax Identification Number, is a unique nine-digit number assigned by the Internal Revenue Service to business entities operating in the United States for the purposes of identification.
To get started, you will need the following information to complete the tax exempt process:
1. Your FEIN, which will be used to authenticate and locate your account information
2. Certificate Image for corresponding jurisdiction
3. Enter or select the Jurisdiction(s) the exemption is applicable for
4. Information about the individual, business or organization claiming the exemption, such as:
a. Buyer’s name
b. Buyer’s address
c. Type of business
d. Type of exempt products/services to be purchased
e. Reason for exemption
f. Number if claiming resale, exempt status (CES #), Native American Tribe, or LC #
g. Signature (if providing paper certificate)
5. Specification of the scope of the certificate (I.e., Blanket, Limited, Single Use, etc.)
